FOUNDING DIRECTOR GOING OUT ON A HIGH NOTE
Boynton Beach, Florida, March 15, 2010 – The Women of Note Chorus has announced the retirement of musical and artistic director, Holly St. John. Ms. St. John is the founding director of the Women of Note, an exceptional women’s a cappella barbershop chorus that was founded in 1996. The Women of Note Chorus has been entertaining South Florida audiences with their beautiful a cappella four-part harmony, innovative choreography and dazzling costumes since its inception. Under Ms. St. John’s direction, the chorus has earned several 1st place medals in their division in regional competition as well as the distinction of World’s Best Small Chorus in 2005.
Ms. St. John has been a member of Sweet Adelines International for more than 35 years, has directed three award-winning choruses, including the Women of Note, and has achieved the status of Master Director in the Sweet Adelines International organization. Ms. St. John is a highly respected music educator, chorus and quartet coach, and works with voice students privately. She currently serves on the education faculty for Region #9 and as a mentor to other chorus directors in the organization.
“The chorus is flourishing both musically and in membership; it’s the perfect time to turn over the reins to a new pair of hands who will challenge and motivate this incredible chorus to even greater achievements in the next decade,” Ms. St. John recently stated. She continued, “It’s my intention to continue as a teacher, coach and mentor in the regional and international programs to which I am committed. Other than that, I have no plans to do anything but enjoy some long-overdue time off.” Ms. St. John will lead the chorus through their 14th regional competition in April where she plans to “…go out on a high note and high score.”
The award-winning Women of Note Chorus is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, a nonprofit music education association for women singing four-part a cappella harmony in the barbershop style. Its members are teachers, nurses, lawyers, legal assistants, bookkeepers, artists, and homemakers, among others. Women who love to sing are invited to attend Tuesday night rehearsals at 7 PM at Boynton Beach Community High School, just west of I-95 off Gateway Blvd.
